Mary Williams is a South Australian quilt designer, maker and tutor.

Her love for fabric and stitching began at an early age, and was further developed
as a qualified Home Economics teacher when she instructed students in sewing
and clothing construction.

She started teaching patchwork and quilting to local groups in 1998 and at the WEA
(Workers Education Association) in 2000, where she still teaches. Her earlier work
primarily included quilts with photo transfer techniques as well as pieced quilts.

Piecing remains a favorite technique in her designs, which now include
Quilt-as-you-Go techniques as well as more creative projects with printing,
applique and thread work.

Mary continues to teach in the Adelaide metropolitan area and in country
South Australia, but has also taught interstate at Dookie, Victoria and for
Australian Quilt Association in Melbourne. Each week she tutors many keen
and talented women, in groups at Aldgate and Kensington Gardens, who
collectively make up the Hilltown Quilters.

Mary has been a committee member of the Quilters Guild of SA and a
member of the QGSA Exhibition Committee. She is a current member of
the QGSA Valuation Panel.

She lives with her husband in Summertown in the Adelaide Hills, and
has two sons and two grandchildren.
